The townsite of Marble Bar
is located in the Pilbara region, 1476 km north north east of Perth.
The nearest town to Marble Bar is Nullagine, 112 km south. Marble
Bar derives its name from a nearby jasper bar, known as Marble Bar,
which runs across the bed of the Coongan River. The townsite was gazetted
in 1893, and came about following the discovery of gold in the area
in 1890. Marble Bar had a reputation as the hottest town in Australia,
due to it once recording 160 consecutive days above the old Fahrenheit
century.
