About

As part of a strategic partnership between BHP Billiton and NetFX Internet, free internet seminars and workshops will be delivered to rural, regional and remote communities in northern Western Australia during 2001 and 2002..

BHP Billiton has committed significant funding towards the project over the two years, as the latest in a series of very successful Roadshows funded by BHP Billiton in Victoria and Queensland aimed at improving internet skills.

The Pilbara, Gascoyne and Kimberley Development Commissions, local government and community members will be providing consultation, advice and assistance in bringing the Roadshow to the north of Western Australia

The Roadshow, hosted by NetFX Internet Directors Angela and Terry Lewis, commenced with a visit to Newman on Monday 20th August 2001, to coincide with the local Fortescue Festival celebrations.

Telstra Countrywide are also partners in the project, providing state of the art satellite, mobile telephone communications and internet technology to ensure speedy connection to the Internet.

Other towns visited as part of the Roadshow are Nullagine, Marble Bar, Hedland, Karratha, Onslow, Dampier, Yandeyarra, Roebourne, Pannawonica, Tom Price and Paraburdoo. Plans for 2002 include Kimberley areas.

The Roadshow is transported in a distinctive motorhome, one of the three Olympic Torch Relay Vehicles and a custom built trailer. The trailer, designed as a mobile classroom, can accommodate up to six people, each with a notebook computer.

Further information can be sourced by calling NetFX’s Project Coordinator Phillipa Prior on 9201 1314 or via email flip@netfx.com.au.
