What do they do? |
As early as 1994, Terry and Angela recognised that the Internet would have a major impact on our lives and the way in which we do business. They developed and ran a successful six-month Internet skills program for long-term unemployed people in the Skillshare network before branching out on their own. In 1996 they formed NetFX Australia Pty Ltd to meet the need they had identified for quality Internet training. The company opened a specialised Internet training centre in the Perth suburb of Leederville and developed and delivered, what are believed to have been, the first accredited Internet courses in Western Australia. After three years at the training centre the opportunity arose to "go mobile" and take their training to country WA. Terry & Angela leapt at the chance, closed the training centre and hit the road. |

BHP Billiton had been sponsoring a Victorian project to provide Internet awareness and training in regional communities for three years when they decided to make the program national. As a result, NetFX were approached to conduct the BHP Billiton skills.net Roadshow WA and will be travelling through the Pilbara and Kimberley regions through 2001 and 2002 providing Internet awareness and skills to people in local communities. A similar Roadshow has also commenced in Queensland. Telstra Country Wide and Wesfarmers Landmark are also partners in the project. Terry & Angela travel and live in a Winnebago motorhome which was one of the official Sydney Olympic Torch Relay vehicles. They will be towing a purpose built trailer which will carry their small 4WD vehicle and convert into an air-conditioned 10 workstation hands-on training facility when required.

In 2001, the department contracted NetFX to undertake the "Harvesting the Net" and "Advancing the Net" programs. The programs required both beginner level and advanced level Internet workshops in up to 60 rural and remote locations across Western Australia, with a focus on using the Internet to assist primary producers. The department obtained funding from Farmbis to significantly subsidise the cost for attendees. An itinerary and scrapbook can be find on the Skills.net website. |
